Found an interesting site dedicated to women’s eye health. Women’s Eye Health.org was formed in response to the troubling reality that two-thirds of the world’s population of blind and visually impaired persons are women. In 2001, an analysis of over seventy epidemiologic studies on blindness revealed this previously unknown and still largely unpublicized fact. A group of researchers at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston joined forces with colleagues from around the U.S. and the world to form Women’s Eye Health.org (WEH.org). It has been estimated that three-quarters of blindness and visual impairment is preventable or treatable; thus, education of the public is paramount. Women’s Eye Health.org was formed as an education outreach program. The site answers a lot of questions on what makes up the eye, what factors can affect your vision, prevention and care of your vision, and statistics.

Peepers Reading Glasses and Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) have been partnered since May 2010. But for those of you that don’t know, 20% of our proceeds from featured pairs of Peepers (look for the pink ribbon) will be donated to LBBC in support of their mission. We currently offer 4 “pink” reading glasses, but will also be creating a pair specific to the LBBC that will be launched in November. So keep your peepers open for those!
